ABSTRACT
Background: Gingivitis Is A Major Form Of Inflammatory Diseases Affecting The Periodontium, Slow In Onset And Long Duration Inflammation That Does Not Lead To Clinical Attachment Loss. Chemotherapeutic Agents May Be Used To Decrease, Eradicate Or Modify The Quality Of Microbial Pathogens; The Use Of Topical Antibacterial Agents As Mouth-wash Can Help To Minimize Bacterial Plaque And So May Be Helpful For Preventing And Curing Of Gingivitis In Some Patients. (4) Silver Nanoparticles Are Nowadays Used Widely As Medical Products. The Present Study Aimed To Compare Clinically, Histologically And Microbiologically The Antibacterial Action Of Chlorhexidine And Nano-silver Mouthwash On Experimentally Induced Gingivitis In Albino Rats.

Materials and Methods: Forty Healthy Male Albino Rats Were Used In The Current Study Including 10 Rats Serving As A Negative Control Group I. After Induction Of Experimental Gingivitis, Rats Were Randomly Categorized Into 3 Groups (each Of 10 Rats); Group (II) (+ve Control Group): Rats With Experimentally?induced Gingivitis (infected But Not Treated).Group (III) Rats Treated Topically With Chlorhexidine Mouthwash 0.1 % Once Daily For 2 Weeks. Group (IV) Rats Treated Topically With 0.1 % Nano-silver Solution (12.5?g/ml) Once Daily For Two Weeks. Clinical, Microbiological, And Histopathological Evaluation Were Performed On Day 0 (just Before Treatment), 7, And 14 Days.

Results: Nanosilver Mouthwash Solution Showed A Superior Antibacterial Effect Compared To Chlorhexidine Mouthwash In Terms Of Improvement In Clinical Scores, Microbial Counting Reducing Colony Forming Units As Well As Histopathological Findings Regarding The Inflammatory Cell Count Showing Significant Reduction. Conclusion: Nanosilver Mouthwash Solution In Concentration Of 12.5?g/ml Is A Promising Candidate For Treatment Of Experimentally ? Induced Gingivitis In Rats.
